What is prostate cancer?

Cancer of the prostate is a result of abnormal cell growth that forms a mass of tissue called a tumor.  When diagnosed early, the tumor is usually contained, or localized, to the prostate. But aftertime, cancer may spread when cells break away from the mass and move through the body.

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

Men with prostate cancer may not experience any symptoms at all so it is very important for men to see their physician regularly and have an annual prostate cancer screening.

 

The most common symptoms men experience are:

  • Difficult urination

  • Inability to urinate

  • Weak urine stream

  • Frequent urination

  • Burning feeling or pain during urination

  • Pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs
