Dr. James Cochran

Dr. James Cochran is a board certified urologist with a strong interest in new treatments and cutting edge technology especially for minimally invasive therapies that help patients’ maintain their quality of life, including HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) for prostate tissue ablation.

 

Dr. Cochran serves as the medical director of clinical trials at Urology Clinical of North Texas, where he has been in private practice for nearly 40 years in the greater Dallas, TX area.

 As the director of clinical trials, Dr. Cochran is active in research and development of new treatments for all phases of urologic disease. He has been the principal investigator for the FDA in over 40 studies evaluating new diagnostic and treatment methods for prostate cancer. In total, Dr. Cochran has participated in over 80 different clinical trials for treatment of urologic conditions. He is also a Certified Prinicipal Investigator for Clinical Trials through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP)

 

In 1999, Dr. Cochran and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas were one of the first clinical trial locations to evaluate and use the HIFU technology developed by Focus Surgery, which is now a part of SonaCare Medical. This is the technology that evolved into the current Sonablate HIFU technology, which was approved for prostate tissue ablation in October of 2015.

 

Dr. Cochran has been performing high intensity focused ultrasound treatments outside of the United States since 2005 while awaiting FDA approval of the technology. As such, Dr. Cochran has a unique perspective on the evolution and efficacy of the technology.
